Factors affecting your health

There are multiple factors affecting our health and causing diseases.

We must understand that every individual is different so is everyone’s immunity and susceptibility to falling sick. Just like fingerprints, the health frame too isn’t the same for all.

Homeopathy is truly the Science of individualization (aphorism 82, Organon of Medicine, 6th edition) and that is the reason we treat an individual as a whole and not just the disease.

Due to this individuality, although many get exposed to the same factors only a few suffer, and that too with variable intensity. Let’s have a look at the list of factors affecting our Health:

  1. Genetic Susceptibility-   A few diseases have run in the family, but it does not necessarily mean an individual will develop the disease. The commonest are type 2 Diabetes, cancer, cystic fibrosis, and other Autoimmune diseases.
  2. Climate-  a warmer climate can cause water-borne diseases like- cholera, after rains leading to water accumulation and spiking mosquito breeds leading to malaria, and dengue. Weather changes cause seasonal flu. Pollen starts in the spring season and continues through summer prompting allergy in many individuals.
  3. Hygiene- good hygiene is directly proportional to good health and vice versa. Washing hands before having food and after. Cleaning fruits and vegetables before consuming and cooking respectively are unavoidable steps in maintaining proper hygiene. Keeping the home and surroundings clean.  Getting regular pest control measures. Use clean drinking water, clean utensils, and clothes. It may lead to chronic diseases like hepatitis.
  4. Diet-  overeating/fatty/processed food/alcoholism causing- obesity, heart complaints, etc. Starvation leads to malnourishment and diseases like- anemia, rickets, goiter, scurvy, PEM, etc. Tobacco chewing, and smoking leading to cancer.
  5. Social circumstances  & money
  6. Occupation- Many diseases are peculiar to certain occupations. People working in plants, and mines develop breathing-related complaints like- bagassosis, and silicosis. Musculoskeletal disorders(MSDs)- like Carpal tunnel syndrome, and spondylitis in office workers especially in the IT sector where most of the time desk job is involved.
  7. Stress- a healthy mind lies in a healthy body. Our thoughts help us heal or get wounded. The more stressful life welcomes all kinds of diseases, including the ones that were considered to run in families only like- Diabetes, Heart blocks, strokes, etc.
  8. Exercise/ physical activity-  staying physically active with regular exercises, yoga asanas, pranayama, and sports activities not only helps one to stay physically fit but also destress one’s mind. The use of a gym must be taken under guidance only with a proper sufficient diet to bear the stress and strain on the body to avoid any undue circumstances.
  9. Pathogens–  these are the culprits for infectious/communicable diseases. May be viruses, bacteria, or worms. Hygienic measures and healthy food are the key here.

As mentioned earlier, effects are variable from person to person. With proper diet and regimen, one can maintain his/her state of health. Homeopathy is the only line of treatment that similarly emphasizes individuality and treats with minimal medication and no side effects.
