Ignored side of our Health- Our mental health!! Apt role of Homeopathy.

We all rush to a doctor and hospital as soon as we fall sick or anyone in the home for that matter. Sickness means – not feeling well, with various range of symptoms, exclusively physical complains, according to a common perspective. We miss out on our Mental state. We have fever, stomach pain, headache, cough, cold, etc, we start looking for help, but unfortunately, the behavior, emotional meltdowns, anxieties, and sleep irregularities are ignored.

Reaching out to someone for emotional help is considered a stigma and this is the leading cause of that ignorance.

We have heard from celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Dwayne Johnson, J. K. Rowling, Angelina Jolie, Shah Rukh Khan, Honey Singh, and many more about their struggles with mental illnesses. We know many have lost their lives too, due to this wrongly fathomed idea of mental illnesses. These mental symptoms don’t make anyone imbecile, even if it does in some cases it means the individual needs help and that help should be sought and given as well. Ignoring a problem doesn’t solve it, but taking action does.

According to our Stalwarts of Homeopathy, the mind has been given the highest importance. In all the major Repertories and Case Taking manuals, mental symptoms & emotions are considered the major contributors to individualizing a case and complete the whole picture of the patient, and deciding the remedy for the respective individual. For example, 2 patients come to us with similar complaints like- headaches, but one person is who tends to keep his emotions to himself & suffers silently & the other is loud & short-tempered throwing things, the medicines will differ, given the difference in their mindset. So, whenever we proceed in a case in the homeopathic way, it covers the mental symptoms by default.

These days, the hustling-bustling lifestyle has quite an impact on all of us both mentally & physically. There is no single cause of being sick- stress, abuse, childhood trauma, injuries, familial illnesses, substance abuse, social factors, lack of sleep, and so on. We need to know the cause and help the person in pain, just like we do when someone falls & braces the injury.

According to ‘Organon of Medicine’, by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, mental Illnesses have been divide into four major categories:

  • The Mental & Emotional diseases begin as the physical symptom disappears.
  • A life-threatening illness suddenly transforms into a mental illness & no longer remains threat to life
  • Acute onset of mental complaints like mania or insanity due to sudden fear, vexation, or Drug effect
  • The mental illnesses originate from the mind itself and gradually cause physical diseases as well.

All these categories have been guided to have different approaches of treatment. Treatment here is not necessarily in the form of physical medicine but in the form of human compassion. We have our major roles to play, as a doctor, patients come to us with the hope to feel better and so our approach needs to be that way.

We must not forget the good old saying- “A healthy mind lies in a healthy body”. We should take good care of ourselves by keeping our lifestyle as healthy as possible. It is achievable with a routine that comprises timely food habits, proper sleep and rest, good hydration, and regular exercise. You can also take the help of meditation and Yoga asanas.

We shall be discussing more about various mental symptoms in further blogs, however, I must not miss out on one most overlooked mental state- Postpartum Depression.  Already, most of the mental illnesses are ignored but the worst is Postpartum Depression(PPD), a state of mind that a woman goes through after childbirth. The new mom is full of worries, insecurities, anxiety, hopelessness, and feelings of worthlessness even, and it is not the baby blues, it is serious and much more common than on record. We have to be more vigilant regarding the same for the better mental health of the mother and her child.

In our clinical practice, we have successfully treated many cases including fear, anxiety, sleeplessness, restlessness, depression, ADHD, PTSD, and delayed speech in children. As you all know, homeopathy medicines are much safer than their counterparts so they are preferred by many for children, rest assured it’s equally safe for new moms who breastfeed their children and for their newborns too. Since the homeopathic practice is successful with its holistic approach, so an honest sharing of details with your physician helps you best. Homeopathic medicines when chosen correctly can do miracles and we will be really glad to help you as and when required with the best of our knowledge.
