Is Your Nose troubling & Head Hurting?

There are many possible complains related to nose which might lead to headache or may be associated with them. We all suffer with these conditions once in a while or so. Some might be having such trouble more often or in chronic form as well. Lets begin with the different ENT (Ear, Nose , Throat)originated headache conditions.

The nose & Paranasal sinues are common causes of headache.

The ear produces earache & pain in mastoid region(bony prominence behind the ears) but headache is not that frequent until and unless some complications leading to intracranial infection or growth.

The throat barely causes headache.

  •  The nasal region plays the major role in headache here, and there too, major contribution is due to nose block, which may lead to Deviated nasal Septum. Nose block even triggers Migraines.
  • The Paranasal sinuses, when nose block occurs without sinusitis, it creates vacuum in paranasal sinuses leading to headache.
  • When we catch cold – with or without nasal obstruction, sometimes sinuses get infected or allergies lead to polyp growth or increased mucosal discharges in these sinuses causing Sinusitis which leads to the commonest frontal headache and pain along the cheeks. This kind of headache is felt more in the morning after waking up due to accumulation of mucus discharges during sleep while lying down and it decreases gradually during the day, as the sinuses keep draining throughout the day.
  • Other nasal complaints, such as Vestibulitis, caused by infection of the furuncle in the nasal vestibule, also lead to headache and fever.
  • Headache is not just associated with above symptoms, it can be due to many more other resaons, we shall be discussing in other blogs.

Next, how do we get relief from these trouble or how to prevent them?

  • Avoid too much use of air conditioners .
  • Stay hydrated
  • Rule out allergies
  • Use of mask when on roads or any dusty place
  • Avoid smoking
  • Take proper steam with plain water or use salt
  • Sip on some warm liquids(do not overdo)
  • Avoid direct exposure to air
  • Do breathing exercises, especially Anulom- Vilom
  • To name some Homeopathic Medicine of use are- Sanguinaria, Spigellia, Belladonna, lycopodium.
