Do all this sound familiar?
Well yes!!
But here’s an open secret or rather say gem hidden in plain sight, which most of us choose to ignore, ‘Homeopathy‘.
Shocked?
Well I’m not surprised seeing you shocked. It was surprising for me too about 12 years back, when a mildly dehydrated child was brought to my clinic in lap, due to several episodes of vomiting & loose motions (after food poisoning); was relieved by a homeopathic medicine and by evening child was playing in the field. It was my first encounter to the speedy recovery that homeopathy has to offer and we are really so well equipped with such wonderful tools to heal and serve the patients, yet the trends have been such that people still think homeopathy works gradually, slowly and so not the first choice for many yet.
A few days back, had an online consultation, early morning, on demand in emergency for similar condition, vomiting and loose stools. The patient was a senior citizen, highly diabetic and yet a great foodie. Since past few days, there were some family functions, so obviously fooding regime had gone “gaga”. Now this call in emergency was around 9 am and the patient had 7-8 episodes of watery stools and 7-8 vomiting episodes as well since morning 6 am. It all had started suddenly, he was fine till last night.
Well! One episode of vomiting makes one feel weak, here you can understand what was the condition. The patients voice was feeble, breaking as if parched, yet not that thirsty. I took the details and prescribed the appropriate similimum.
I say ‘Similimum‘, because that is how Homeopathy medicines are prescribed. Not alone one symptom but individual as a whole, though in acute cases we don’t go in deep research questions. There’s difference in approach in Acute & Chronic cases.
In the above case, I asked the patient to report to me by 1 pm, and so he did.
To my great pleasure, he told me he had no episode of either vomiting or diarrhoea since he took the very first dose of the medicine around 10 am; Bravo! What a relief it is to see such a response. I asked for a follow-up call again by the same evening, so he did. This time his voice was normal, energetic, and the patient was in good health; by the next morning, he called back again, thanking me for the relief that medicine had offered, stating he is in absolute health. What else as a doctor would make me happier!!
Besides the prescribed Homeopathic medicine, patient was advised to keep sipping small amount of water, ORS (strictly WHO recommended only) and fruits like ripe banana, pomegranate, and avoid any other solid food or milk/milk products for the day. The patient before approaching me on call was taking tetra packed ORS solution. Its a Red Flag. It really get on my nerves how people do their marketing and business on false pretence, and even the well educated people fall for it.
One must read the cover very carefully, they label it as ORS and yet somewhere in mini fonts, they mention not to be taken if suffering with diarrhoea or vomiting.
So, concluding this article with a request: not to overlook Homeopathy as a slow mode of treatment, and caution against false advertisements and propaganda.
